A City of Surprises - Dayton, OH

When we picked Dayton, Ohio, for a quick weekend trip, we left home with few expectations. Outside of a few notable exceptions (Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky for instance), let's be honest. Ohio doesn't jump out as being a particularly touristy destination any more than Indiana does. But at only two hours from our home base, it was an easy stop as we planned for bigger-and further away-destinations.

And I've got to say, we weren't disappointed. We were actually really, REALLY pleasantly surprised.

This city, located along I-75 in central-eastern Ohio just north of Cincinnati, proved to have awesome book locations, unique and fun shopping, more sightseeing than we were expecting. It is also only a quick one-hour drive from or to Cincy (we visited the Cincinnati Zoo for my youngest - it's kinda her thing. Alright, alright, mine too) if you want to include the larger city in your stay and make a day trip.

If you love NASCAR, you're probably most familiar with this city for the Dayton 500. If you love history, then you're probably aware of the fact that the Wright Brothers lived and started their Wright Company Factory here. And while both of these facts are true, there's more to this little city than Nascar and airplanes. So we'll dig in, see what we find, and probably (definitely) even talk to an author or two. Be on the lookout for more posts in all of our usual buckets, and don't forget to check out our book pages to see some of our picks for books that take place in Dayton or the state of Ohio.
